My name is Robert Schroeder I was born, raised and reside in Colorado. I grew up on a small ranch on the eastern plains of Colorado where I built barns and other structures and thus made the natural transition into construction which has influenced the way I look at and build my ceramic pieces. I began my love of ceramics in high school and really started to see the fun side of working in three dimensional media. After a short break, I found myself taking ceramics classes at a local college, where I am now a studio assistant and help others sharpen their skills. It was here that I began to use the coiling technique to build the pots seen in my galleries.
This technique is my favorite and allows me to make large pots ranging from 2' to 4' tall. I enjoy building large pots, because it is like pushing the clay to its limits and the larger you build the more challenging it is. When something becomes too easy it becomes boring. With my ceramics I like to do different shapes, textures, sizes, and firings that bring new challenges and make each piece unique and one of a kind.
I have had pieces displayed and sold in fundraising auctions including one focused on Prader-Willi Syndrome, as well as the McKinnell Scholarship Fund, which helps aspiring ceramic artists (like myself) go to school. I have also been requested to teach many students and a workshop on my coil building technique.
